Hello everyone!

Hello, my name is Victoria, a student of Emma Willard school conducting the signature program for 2020 to 2021.

My project, “What impact do refugees and immigrants have on the U.S economy?”, is in a state where I am doing some background research.

I am taking a look at websites such as RISSE, National immigration forum, and other websites related to refugees and immigrants. The first couple of steps that I am planning to take is to research about well-known business firms that are founded by refugees and immigrants, and to conduct research about what benefits they bring into the economy of the United States.

My personal interest relates to my project topic, because when living in the United States, I have only heard about the negative connotations between the economy and refugees and immigrants. It soon made me wonder, that if everyone assumes that there are negative connotations between the two, then what are the proved facts that needs to be uncovered? I always wondered how they impacted the economy of the United States in both long term and short term. From this project, I hope I could break stigmas that refugees and immigrants worsen the economy, and I hope to raise awareness about the benefits that they contribute to the economy of the United States.
